Today celebrates International Yoga Day so I thought I would take the opportunity to revisit some of my favourite yoga poses. These are really useful for when you have trouble sleeping or letting go of the days thoughts.
| Child Pose (Balasana) The easiest pose which stretches out all the muscles along your glutes and your back. A great one when you feel overwhelmed. Legs up the Wall Pose (Viparita Karani) This is the best pose for relaxing your entire nervous system, and a handy one to use before going to sleep. Tree Pose (Vrkasana) This pose helps you improve balance and strengthens your feet, legs and core. It is a great grounding and stabilising option when you feel pulled in all directions. Warrior II (Virabhadra II) This pose is great for times where you need to draw on your inner strength and confidence. |
If you are interested in developing a regular practice in the comfort of your own home, a couple of resources I recommend include:
- www.yogaanytime.com (This is a online database of yoga videos which can be searched by duration, yoga style, teacher and level. They also offer free trial period of 15 days).
- www.yogajournal.com.au (offers a comprehensive breakdown of poses, including those listed here)
